During her interview on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Bella Ramsey revealed that she discovered her emetophobia when she was 13 years old. The condition of the star of “The Last of Us” causes her to have an extreme and paralyzing fear of vomiting.
Ramsey explained that this fear prevented her from leaving the house. “Everything was a threat. You leave the house, and it’s like seeing germs and sickness everywhere. Terrifying,” she explained.
“I remember when I was a little kid, there was a girl at daycare who vomited in the sandbox, and it got a bit on my red Crocs, and I thought it was funny,” the actress recalled.

“But since then, every memory I have of vomiting is terrifying. I can remember exactly every time someone near me felt nauseous or threw up,” said Bella Ramsey.
The star of the HBO Max series “The Last of Us” said that this condition might be related to her autism.
“Not all autistic people or people on the spectrum have emetophobia, but when I got this diagnosis, a lot of my life started to make sense, a lot of the experiences I had growing up,” she explained.
Bella Ramsey revealed her diagnosis in 2025 after a member of the production team of the Max series suggested that she might also be on the spectrum.
